06/27/2017 Celebrating Helen Keller’s Birthday

During the month of June, we celebrate Helen Keller’s Birthday. Helen Keller, born June 27, 1880, became deaf and blind at 19 months of age. With the help of her teacher, she developed adapted communication skills, and went on to devote her life to helping others. Helen Keller continues to be a symbol of courage, advocacy, and independence–her legacy can be seen in many of the significant political, social, and cultural movements of the 20th century. We invite you to learn more about Helen Keller and the Lighthouse by visiting our website and/or by touring one of our facilities.

This year, on June 27, 2017, Lighthouse clients and client alumni were invited to a special luncheon. Thanks to Chick-fil-A in Spring Hill for providing the wonderful food, Vanda Pharmaceuticals for the sponsorship, Hernando County Emergency Management for loaning us some tables, and the Crayola Experience for providing a door prize and activities for the children. Thanks also to the Florida Department of Health (DOH), the Early Learning Coalition of Pasco and Hernando Counties, Inc., and the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office for attending and providing giveaways to our guests, and to our volunteer Michele, for keeping the kitchen organized and well-stocked. Please enjoy our slideshow from this wonderful event.
